The world remains in a volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous (VUCA) environment. Geopolitics, inflation, and climate risks are more prevalent and dominant than ever. Organisations will need to increase their efforts in navigating risks & uncertainty, shifting their attention toward preparing for various scenarios and outcomes rather than focusing solely on prediction. Risk culture is a key component in strengthening this risk management process.

Daniel Lau

Daniel Lau is a Managing Director and Head, Enterprise Risk & Performance (ERP) team within the Risk & Performance Management Department of GIC. The ERP team provides an independent and objective view of the investment risk and performance drivers of the total portfolio, outside of active strategies. In addition, ERP provides oversight for leverage, liquidity, and climate risk. He is also a member of the GIC Sustainability Committee.

Prior to joining GIC in 2021, Mr. Lau was a Senior Portfolio Manager at PIMCO in Singapore. He managed Asia portfolios, led macro strategy focused on regional opportunities as part of the broader Asia Pacific Portfolio Committee, and developed business in this space. Previously, Mr. Lau led the Asia Fixed Income trading desk with Norges Bank Investment Management and traded emerging markets credit products at Barclays. He started his career at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, where he conducted and implemented monetary policy. He has 17 years of investment and financial markets experience and holds a Master’s in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political science.
