The GARP Toronto Chapter is pleased to convene a panel of experienced risk professionals to provide insight into the current state of the economy, industry growth, trends and career opportunities in the rewarding field of risk management.  

 

This event is particularly geared towards those looking to start, advance, or evolve their careers in the risk management profession. Sharing their personal experience and perspectives, our experts will answer your questions including: 

  • What skills are in demand and in what areas of risk do opportunities exist to start or advance a career in risk management?
  • What are the transferable skills of a risk manager and how has the role changed? How will the evolution of generative AI impact the field?
  • How high is job satisfaction, confidence, and security in the profession today?

Registration is required as seats are limited. Priority will be given to GARP Individual Members.

Russell is a Senior Director at RBC and a risk management professional with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry gained through consulting and direct operational roles. Russell specializes in operational risk management, risk governance and credit portfolio evaluation.

At RBC, Russell is the Global Head of Operational Risk Advisory & Oversight with a focus on the enterprise’s Corporate Functions. Russell has consistently produced successful outcomes at employers and clients which include Canada’s major financial services companies and banks in the U.S., U.K. and China. His experience includes the development of risk governance structures and policy, conducting client education on capital management, and designing and implementing an enterprise-wide regulatory risk assessment process.

William (Bill) May is the Managing Director of Global Head of Certifications and Educational Programs at GARP, and is responsible for the FRM, SCR, and other risk-relevant educational programs. Prior to joining GARP, William had over 20 years of market experience including serving as a Senior Director in Fitch Ratings’ credit market research group and as a Senior Research Officer at UBS Wealth Management. He has worked for several buy-side and sell-side firms including Bank of America and Federated Investors as well as specialty firms like Andrew Kalotay Associates and Law and Economic Consulting Group. He began his career in the research function of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and has worked on the Open Market Trading Desk and as a bank examiner. William holds a BS in applied mathematics and economics from Stony Brook University; an MBA, MA in economics, and Advanced Certificate in financial econometrics and data analysis from Fordham University; an MS in financial engineering from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, an MS in applied statistics and an EdM in measurement and evaluation from Columbia University’s Teachers College where he is currently pursuing an MS in neuroscience and education.
