The Supervisory Challenge of Insurance Company Models

Co-Hosted by GARP Madrid and Germany Chapters

Internal models can be perceived as “black boxes” due to their complexity receiving little scrutiny outside of risk management departments and regulators’ offices. These models are now a source of conversation among politicians regulators and even the general public amid increasing calls for transparency.

Join us for a presentation from three members of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority’s (EIOPA) Internal Model Unit (IMU). The team will discuss:

•   An overview of how internal models are used in the insurance industry from a European perspective.

•   The supervisory challenges facing National Supervisors when dealing with the initial approval and on-going appropriateness assessment of Internal Models

•   The EIOPA’s role in ensuring greater transparency harmonization and common understanding of supervision at the EU level.
