UAE Chapter: Model risk refers to the potential for adverse outcomes resulting from the use of inaccurate, misspecified, or improperly implemented financial models. As financial institutions increasingly rely on quantitative models for decision-making—ranging from asset pricing and risk assessment to regulatory compliance—model risk becomes a critical concern. Errors in model assumptions, data inputs, or calibration can lead to significant financial losses and undermine the reliability of risk management frameworks. Effective model governance, including regular validation, stress testing, and robust documentation, is essential to mitigating model risk and ensuring the soundness of financial decision-making processes
Join us for a discussion at the GARP UAE chapter meeting in Dubai to gain valuable insights on:
- The key drivers and types of model risk in financial institutions
- Best practices for model validation, governance, and oversight
- How to identify and mitigate risks in AI and machine learning models
- Regulatory expectations around model risk management (MRM)
- Lessons from real-world failures due to model misspecification or misuse
