Please join GARP Hong Kong Chapter for an informative introduction to the crypto sector in Hong Kong, including important perspectives on the risks associated with this growing asset class. 

We will examine the following topics with our speakers who will provide insights both from an academic and practitioner’s perspective:

  • Overview of the crypto market in Hong Kong relative to other global markets
  • Specific characteristics of ETFs, OTC, stablecoins and their licensing requirements
  • Key risks associated with crypto assets, with a focus on their wider adoption in the financial services sector, including the launch of crypto exchanges, retail investor demand, and related custody and security risks

Registration is required as seats are limited. Priority will be given to GARP Individual Members.

Mr. Au Yeung is currently the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) of a digital asset exchange and was the CEO (Blockchain Business) of a Hong Kong Listed Company. Mr. Au Yeung was also the Head of Strategic Initiative of HashKey Digital Asset Group Limited and COO of Hash Blockchain Limited. 

Prior to joining HashKey, Mr. Au Yeung held a variety of senior roles at Ant Financial, Royal Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, BNP Paribas and Securities and Futures Commission (“SFC”) with the focus on compliance, AML, risk management and other middle-to-back-office functions. He started his career at Morgan Stanley as Morgan Stanley Young Fellow before joining PricewaterhouseCoopers in the TICE (Technology, Information, Communication & Entertainment) practice. 

Mr. Au Yeung graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Business Administration (First Class Honor) and Dean’s Award. He earned a MSc in Medical Science from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, a MSc in Aviation Engineering (Aeronautical Engineering) (with Distinction) from the Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering Department of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and received two Masters of Laws from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Tsinghua University, respectively. He is also an alumnus of Wharton School of UPenn and affiliate alumnus of MIT Sloan School of Management. 

In addition, Mr. Au Yeung is the co-founder of Merkle Tree Innovation Foundation, an NGO focuses on using innovative technology to relieve or resolve social problems as well as promoting STEM education, and the Leader of the Year (2019/20) of the IFTA FinTech Achievement Award. He is the Co-Founder and Co-Chairperson of the IEEE Hong Kong Blockchain Chapter.

Jack has been a professor of practice at the School of Accounting and Finance at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) since 2018. He taught graduate classes in Entrepreneurial Finance, Fintech, and blockchain. His research interests cover digital assets, artificial intelligence, fintech, and businesses for the new economy companies in Hong Kong, the US, and the STAR market.

A fintech enthusiast and serial entrepreneur, Jack is also a seasoned startup advisor and Silicon Valley veteran. His extensive experience spans startups, venture investment, infrastructure investment, mergers and acquisitions, business development, technology development, and consulting.

Jack holds three master’s degrees: an MBA with high honors from the Chicago Booth School of Business, an MS in Engineering Management from Stanford University, and an MS in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He earned his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington.

In addition to his teaching role at PolyU, Jack serves as a consultant for fintech companies and regulators, an advisor for startups, and holds multiple government positions. These include being a non-official member of the Web3 Task Force under the HK Financial Secretary, a Council Member and Convenor of AGDEIT for the Hong Kong Consumer Council, an independent non-executive director at the eMPF Platform Company (under MPFA/FSTB), and a former member of the SFC Fintech Advisory Group.
