The bar for European banks to assess and manage sustainability risk has been raised, thanks in part to the European Banking Authority’s (EBA) recently published ESG Risk Management Guidelines. Risk managers at European financial institutions must prepare and adapt to this new wave of comprehensive ESG regulation. 

Join the Poland Chapter meeting for a presentation on the EBA guidelines, followed by a panel discussion that will focus on the following topics:

  • Challenges associated with managing ESG risk
  • Status for implementing ESG Risk Management Guidelines
  • Potential lessons to be learned from managing ESG risk

Monika Czokajło is Director of the ESG Risk Office at Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego. She graduated from the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies at the University of Warsaw, with a specialization in climatology and atmospheric protection. She gained several years of professional experience in the area of sustainable development in the non-governmental sector (WWF) and Big Four consulting firms (PwC, Deloitte), implementing strategic, analytical and reporting projects in the field of ESG for companies in the financial, energy, mining, FMCG and other sectors. She has been a lecturer at postgraduate ESG studies conducted by Kozminski University and the Warsaw School of Economics. She is currently developing a team and approach to ESG risk assessment at the Polish development bank BGK.

Engaged in the financial sector for over 20 years, working in Warsaw, London, Lisbon, and Karachi. He has gained experience in leading global financial firms (Deutsche Bank, Moody’s Investors Service, Citigroup, Textron) in various markets within the EMEA region, including Eastern European countries, Israel, and Pakistan. He is a member of the presidium of the most significant working groups regarding sustainable finance in Poland, one of the two Polish representatives in the Chief Sustainable Officers Forum at the European Banking Federation, and a founding member of PolSif.

He is a graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics and Sustainable Finance at the University of Cambridge.

As part of Citigroup's global risk structures, Ola is responsible for climate risk management in all Citi legal entities. In this role, Ola focuses on embedding of climate risk into risk management processes, in line with Citi's goals and best regulatory. In addition to this role, Ola also serves as Risk Site Lead at the Citi Solution Center in Warsaw. Ola has been with Citi for 12 years, during which time she has been responsible for various areas of risk management in both Poland and Ireland. Ola's previous experience includes work in consulting firms, mBank, and the National Bank of Poland in risk management departments. Ola holds a Master's degree from the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw in the field of Computer Science and Econometrics, and she is also a graduate of doctoral studies at the Warsaw School of Economics.

Paweł is a Director in the Risk Advisory Department at Deloitte with 15 years of experience in the financial market. Paweł has extensive experience in implementing regulations (including EBA guidelines, KNF recommendations), credit processes, and risk measurement models in banks and financial institutions. In his professional work, Paweł focuses on optimizing risk management processes in financial institutions while considering regulatory obligations. In this regard, Paweł leads projects related to ESG risks, optimization of credit processes (policies), as well as implementation and validation projects for credit risk measurement models (scoring/rating, loss given default, models for ICAAP purposes, fair value valuation) and models for other risks.
