São Paulo, Brazil: Join the GARP Latin America Chapter for our inaugural in-person meeting in Brazil. Our subject matter experts will examine the complexities of cyber risks, navigating the evolving threat landscape characterized by social engineering, advanced persistent threats, and zero-day exploits. Expert discussions will focus on actionable risk management strategies that incorporate cutting-edge mitigation techniques such as threat intelligence, predictive analytics, and cybersecurity frameworks to inform and ensure operational resilience in the event of a cyber breach. 

Specific topics the panellists will discuss include:

  • Advanced cyber protection and proactive security measures to mitigate emerging threats.
  • Global connectivity, fiber optics, and case studies of previous attacks. 
  • Current and future fraud trends, including crypto-based schemes.
  • Recommended industry practices for data protection and management.
  • Cyber exercises and simulations.

This meeting will be hosted in Portuguese.

Gustavo has served as director of banks, brokerages, pension funds and assets in Brazil as well as risk and compliance roles at multinational companies, based in Brazil and abroad. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from Insper, is a CFA charterholder, FRM certified, and an RAI certificate holder.

Former Special Advisor for the Cyber Guardian Exercise, Cyber Defense Command (Veteran)

A veteran of the Brazilian Navy, with more than 39 years of experience within the Information Technology arena, of which 30 years were dedicated to Information Security management, he was a leader in the Cyber Defense Command, Guest Professor at the War College, Air Force Staff College, Army Staff College, Naval War College and Defense College and reviewer of relevant works on cyber security. His formal education background includes Postgraduate student in Offensive Cyber Security - ACADI-TI (2023), Postgraduate in Naval Science from the Naval War College (2011), Postgraduate in Information Security Management - Gama Filho University (2010), Data Processing Technologist - UNIABEU University (1996).

 

Antonio holds the following certifications: Certified Cybersecurity Analyst (CCSA) v2, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and Lead Auditor issued by ITCERTS.

While on active duty, his last position was that of Special Advisor for the Cyber Guardian Exercise at the Cyber Operations Coordination Center of the Cyber Defense Command, where he was also Deputy Chief of the Cyber Operations Coordination Center and Head of the Doctrine and Legislation Office of the same Center.

Valdir is head of banking security, fraud prevention and banking services at FEBRABAN where he coordinates their Cyber Lab. He has more than 20 years of experience in security project management, holding positions within the Sou da Paz Institute, São Paulo City Hall, the São Paulo State Justice and Public Security Secretariats. He was also Project Coordinator, Undersecretary and Chief of Staff at the Security Secretariat. Valdir has a degree in Law and Political Science from USP.

Thiago heads up the Fraud division against E-Commerce Institutions at the DEIC's Cybercrime Division, where he is also head of the LAB-Tac Police Station. He holds degrees in State Law, Constitutional Law and Human Rights and Public Security in Brazil from Mackenzie Presbyterian University. He is also the author of several publications and academic articles.
