After you register you will be given the option to choose to take your Exam remotely through Pearson CVUE’s online proctoring system OnVUE, at a location of your choice or via computer-based testing (CBT) at a Pearson VUE location.
-
Yes. Pearson VUE’s system requires an eight-digit ID code in order to register. To find your registration number, simply add zeroes to the beginning of your GARP ID number until you have a total of eight digits.
For example, a user with the five-digit GARP ID “12345” would add three zeroes to create the eight-digit number “00012345.”

You will have nine months from the date of your paid registration to pass the exam. Please note that each additional exam attempt will incur an additional cost of USD 175. If you fail or do not take the exam within the nine-month registration period, you must re-register and pay another full registration fee.
If you have little industry experience or are not well-versed in banking risk-related issues, we recommend that you spend at least two months reviewing the materials before sitting for the examination. -
The electronic exam consists of 80 multiple-choice questions and must be completed in 175 minutes. Questions will be presented randomly and not by category, (e.g. Market Risk, Credit Risk). Exam results will be provided immediately upon completion by clicking on the results button. A passing score for this exam is 54 out of 80 questions (67.5%).
-
No personal items are allowed in the exam room or environment. Candidates may not bring or wear barrettes, hair clips, headbands, or hairbands. Removable jewelry is not permitted in the exam room. Candidates may not bring any books and/or notes into the exam room for use during the exam session, unless pre-authorized by GARP in advance.
In-Person CBT: Candidates must store all personal items in a secure area (a locker), as indicated by the proctor, or return personal items to their vehicle. If candidates refuse to store personal items, they will not be allowed to sit for the Exam, and they will lose their registration fee. All electronic devices must be turned off before storing them in a locker.
Online Proctored Exam: The desk or table must be clean, and candidates are not permitted to be within arm’s reach of books, notepads, sticky notes, papers, pens, pencils, and other writing instruments/objects. Additional monitors and computers must be unplugged and turned off. Items on the wall with writing on them, such as whiteboards, will be inspected. In addition, during the check-in process, candidates must take photos of the work area, which will be inspected by a proctor prior to exam launch. Testing will not begin unless the workspace passes the room scan. Is content in GARP Learning the same as printed books?
-
You will receive instructions to access a digital certificate on your GARP portal the day following successful completion of the exam.
-
Yes. Content in GARP Learning and the printed books cover the same material, so you can study with either format. When you register for the course, you will automatically gain access to GARP Learning. If you would like to receive printed books, select the box for print books on the registration page.
