What are the Scenario Games? The GARP Climate Scenario Games are interactive events where the audience takes on the role of the board of a fictional company. Confronted with a series of dilemmas, the audience votes on how to respond and is confronted with the impacts and consequences of those decisions in subsequent dilemmas. Each has been designed to tease out the complexities of climate-related risks as we look across different sectors and geographies.
We created these Scenario Games with the aim of educating people about climate risks, but also with the hope that these sessions will spark ideas, discussions, and engagement among you and your audience.
Who are the Scenario Games for? The Scenario Games have been designed to explore the complexities and interconnections of climate risks and opportunities from a novel vantage point. While the audience will be taking on the role of board members of a firm in the real economy, the insights from the session will have broad applicability regardless of the audience’s sector or level of experience. The accessible format means that anyone interested in these issues will feel welcome and come away having learned something valuable.
We have found that the Scenario Games are highly scalable. While they are a great engagement tool for small teams, they work equally well when you have hundreds of people in the audience.
How is a Scenario Game Event structured? GARP’s Climate Scenario Games have been designed as 90-minute events to be conducted with a live audience, either in-person or online.
As the Scenario Game Host, you will ask your audience to roleplay as the board of a fictional multi-national company, as you collectively navigate a series of challenging climate-related dilemmas. Each dilemma will culminate in the audience voting on a course of action, followed by feedback from an expert panel. (Videos from the expert panel are included in the pack and cover a range of perspectives, including investor, corporate/real economy, legal, and board level.)
What is included in the Scenario Game Resources Pack? Within the downloaded pack, you will find everything you need to host three scenario game events covering the following areas:
- Physical Risk
- Transition Risk
- Reaching Net Zero
Each scenario includes a deck and a guidance document for event hosts. Within the decks you will find the scenario presentation, videos from an expert panel reflecting on each dilemma, and a full script. The guidance document contains information on how to conduct the scenario game event, a breakdown of timings, and an overview of the scenario firm, context, and dilemmas.
Would you like to experience a live Scenario Game yourself? On November 26th, GARP will be hosting a live Nature and Climate Risk Scenario Game. For 90-minutes act on the board of a global food manufacturing company and time travel through to 2030 as you make real-time strategic decisions for this company over the next decade.
Not only will this be an insightful event, exploring the complex interconnections between climate and nature risks, but also a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with the event format. Register for the event here: https://event.on24.com/wcc/r/4746314/3FBBEECCB6664ADBECE58DFFFD04DA99
