ESG Transitioning: Building an ESG Risk Framework within European Banks

Martijn Schrijvers is the Managing Director of Financial Risk Management at Van Lanschot Kempen, where he is responsible for all of the bank’s financial risk functions including credit, market, investment compliance of AuM, interest rate, and sustainability risks. Before joining Van Lanschot he held various positions at DNB, with his last function being head of mission of supervisory examination projects.

Previously Martijn was a portfolio manager at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and an economist at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel. He has a master’s in General and Development Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Anne-Claire is a Partner in the Banking & Capital Markets Practice of Deloitte in the Netherlands. She leads the Deloitte EMEA Center of Excellence for Regulatory Reporting and co-leads the Sustainable Finance banking advisory practice in the Netherlands. She is also part of the European and Global Sustainable Finance and Sustainability Reporting communities within Deloitte. She has long-standing experience in the Global FSI Industry and has executed a vast number of engagements in close cooperation with the regulators, hence brings in that experience. Furthermore, she is part of advisory projects in relation to CSRD double materiality assessment and implementation projects.

Tobias is a Manager in the Banking & Markets Practice of Deloitte in the Netherlands. He leads the climate risk modelling team and is part of the Financial Risk Management team within Deloitte. He has extensive experience with ESG risk that ranges from ESG risk identification and materiality assessments to the development and validation of models used to quantify ESG risks and carbon emissions. He integrated ESG risks within Economic Capital and IFRS9 models as well as within the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and Internal Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process (ILAAP).
