Overview

Excitement over artificial intelligence (AI) continues to grow as observers speculate how this technology will disrupt industries and professions worldwide. Risk management has not escaped the frenzy.

At this meeting of the GARP Japan Chapter we have assembled an experienced panel including a risk manager, a derivatives quant, and an AI data practitioner to share their perspectives on the use of AI and the future of risk management.

Okada Takuro

Mr. Okada Takuro is Representative Board Member, Digital Agency and Project Manager at the Financial Data Utilizing Association. At the Digital Agency he is a private sector expert engaged in measures related to data utilization in the financial industry. Mr. Takuro has worked in the digital finance field at 77 Bank, Japanese Bankers Association, and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation. At Mitsubishi he established an AI and data utilization organization.

Mr. Takuro founded and initiated the “Financial Business x Artificial Intelligence Community,” and established the Association for the Promotion of Financial Data Utilization, where he became Representative Director. Mr. Takuro graduated from Tohoku University, Faculty of Engineering.

Dr. Yasufumi Osajima

Dr. Yasufumi Osajima is General Manager, Quantitative Analytics & Development at SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. Previously he worked at Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, BNP Paribas Securities (Tokyo and London), and Goldman Sachs.

Dr. Osajima has been a derivatives quant for more than 20 years where he has been involved in various model development, product development, and risk management projects. As an academic activity he conducted analysis of interest rate implied volatility based on stochastic analysis by asymptotic expansion, and researched risk hedging methods for derivatives using deep learning.

Dr. Osajima completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo. He is a part-time lecturer at the Graduate School of Business Administration, Hitotsubashi University.

Satoshi Kumeta

Mr. Satoshi Kumeta is Executive Director of the Derivatives Trading Department at Daiwa Securities performing derivatives quant work. He has introduced and promoted XVA while he deals with CVA regulations as the CVA Regulation WG Head.

Previously he did quant work at Mitsubishi UFJ Bank for more than ten years. Mr. Kumeta holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
