Certification Requirements
Certified ERPs are expected to have some
related energy or financial industry experience and a general
understanding of one or more physical energy markets. To become a
certified Energy Risk Professional and to use the ERP designation
after your name, the following is required:
- A passing score on the ERP
Exam
- Active Individual Membership in the
Global Association of Risk Professionals
- A minimum of two years professional
full-time work experience in the area of energy or financial risk
management or another related field including, but not limited to,
trading, portfolio management, academic or industry research,
economics, auditing, risk consulting, risk technology, and/or
physical energy fields like exploration, production, shipping, and
processing.
- GARP requires Certified ERPs to further
their skills and knowledge through a mandatory Continuing
Professional Education (CPE) Program. This helps Certified ERPs
develop their expertise and stay current in a dynamic industry. For
more information click here.
To complete the certification process, GARP
requires a brief description (minimum of 4-5 sentences) detailing
how your experience relates directly to energy or financial risk
management; your professional experience must encompass two years
of full-time work experience. Experience completed for school will
not be considered, including internships, part-time jobs, or
student teaching.
Important: You
have 5 years from the date you passed the ERP Exam to have your
work experience verified, which you can do by completing the online
form
verifying your professional experience If you fail to provide
this information within the 5 year time frame, then you will be
required to retake the ERP Exam in order to become a Certified
ERP.
Earning the right to use "ERP" after your
name demonstrates professionalism and dedication to the profession.
Thus possessing an appropriate level of professional experience is
important in ensuring that the ERP designation maintains its status
as the leading certification for energy risk professionals
worldwide.
