Mark Wallace joined Credit Suisse as a Managing Director and Head
of Strategic Business Development for Asset Management in August
2007. He works closely with David Blumer (CEO Asset
Management) and the various members of the management team to
explore a number of strategic business development opportunities,
including the building, composition and set up of a framework for
the development of hedge fund strategies that exploit the talent
and technology that currently exists within the Investment Banking
division.
Mark joins Credit Suisse from UBS Global Asset Management. He
most recently served as Chief Operating Officer, managing the back
and middle office functions for UBS's asset management operation
and acting as Chairman of UBS O'Connor's alternative and quantative
businesses in London.
Prior to this role, Mark was Chief Risk Officer for UBS Investment
Bank and since October 1994 headed the Risk Control function.
During this period, there was unprecedented change in the industry
approach to market risk control including the introduction of Value
at Risk and its adoption as the regulatory standard. Mark was
the Global Association of Risk Professionals' (GARP) Risk Manager
of the Year, 2002. Mark joined the then Swiss Bank
Corporation in January 1991, at the time of the joint venture with
O'Connor, and was instrumental in establishing the Market Risk
Control function in the Investment Bank.
Prior to joining UBS, Mark held various posts at HSBC Group
encompassing audit, risk control and finance.
Mark is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Advisor.
He also holds a BSc in Economics from the London School of
Economics and is a member of the GARP Board of Trustees.
